Note that with a Linux-based OS, you’ll need to install proprietary drivers manually, which can be a little tricky and will likely require some Google research. This option takes some extra leg work, because the drivers that Linux distributions usually ship with aren’t suited for playing games. That said, this is the cheapest way to get a broadly useful and reliable desktop-style operating system.

Visually, it pays off. PC titles usually offer more detailed textures, better post-process effects, superior anti-aliasing, and more realistic shadows. Despite that, games usually run more quickly on PC. Consoles almost always target 30 frames per second, while the PC can regularly flex its muscles and obtain 60 FPS or higher. The net result is more attractive, more fluid gameplay.

Last but not least, here’s a cool little spin to what some would consider a ‘gaming accessory’. This is more of a why not than a perhaps. If you’re into organization or are like us and really just aren’t a fan of cables (especially the annoying clutter you have underneath your setup), then these are not only cheap but super effective as well. We’ve seen quite a few different spins to ‘cable management sleeves’ but through research we’ll link you to one of our favorites and most reviewed.

One last thing, Steam sales. For the past two years. Consoles have been having sales that rival steam in prices. Especially during holidays. Alot of games on consoles tend to go on sale starting off at 50% off. Recent games too that just came out the past year. And sometimes if you keep checking the sales every week. They could go on sale normally in-between. 50% to 85% off. Steam sales are a thing of the past.
The only thing that we didn’t like about the setup are the 2 ultrawide monitors. Gaming with only 2 monitors is just inconvenient because of the bezels. Moreover, there are some issues with having only ultrawide monitors (which we have discussed in some of the above builds that feature ultrawide monitors). One Ultrawide is great, but we wouldn’t be opposed to swapping it out for 2 smaller 16:9 monitors. Of course, this might increase the overall build cost unless you’re going for 1080p monitors.
Want to build a gaming PC that's both a performance monster and a showpiece? It takes equal parts strategy and money. We can't help you with the bucks, alas. But we've mapped out and built enough PCs to know where to save and where to splurge. You can count on lots of bang for buck these days in two key areas—mainstream video cards, and gratuitous RGB bling—and we aim to max those out for the money.
Looking at the comments for this article, really keeps the angry PC elitist stereotype alive. The article was completely objective, but he did have some good points though. Console gaming is cheaper, there's no doubt about it. And don't give me that crap about ps+ or Xbox gold. He's talking about initial startup price. Some of these guys going on about $500 or less PC's. Yeah it's true you can get one for that price. But only if you want to play cheap Indies and AAA's from 5 years ago. Otherwise playing modern games. Your easily going to spend $800 or more.
Generally, PC gamers need to have more technical skills than console gamers. Although it is possible to modify a console by adding new hardware, it’s not necessary. Console gamers do need to be able to install the sequel or update of their games. PC gamers need at least a minimal level of technical skills, even if they purchased a pre-built gaming computer. And by technical skills, we don’t mean the ability to write HTML code, but the ability to set up a computer with a general concept of how it operates. A PC gamer might also want upgrade hardware components and install new drivers for those components, which calls for an intermediate skill level.

As part of its ongoing January sales, Amazon has reduced a raft of Logitech computer accessories by up to 53 per cent. To build an old-themed computer is nice, but you’ll have to remember that you’ll have to sacrifice resolution as well. And this is the case with this setup. But surprisingly enough, this has a native resolution of 1600 x 1200 @ 75Hz. That’s 15 Hz more than most modern 1080p gaming monitors that usually has 60Hz. Also, you’re still left with a 4:3 ratio monitor.
The PC is the way to go for true gaming (sorry console gamers). They have been ahead of consoles for a long time. Their performance is unparalleled compared to any other gaming machine and is constantly getting better. To get the latest and greatest in a PC will set you back a lot of money. But you don't need to have the best to play the best. The beauty about PC gaming is the variability of it. You can get a very decent gaming PC built for around $800. If you just want a PC to do as good as a console, you can make it for less than a console. PC's price point and power makes it a must for all gamers and their gaming setup. We made a great guide on what to consider when buying or building your own PC.
Other games don’t support couch-friendly controls in any form. This is true of most strategy games, a great number of PC-only indie games, and some racing titles. Yes, you can play from your couch with a wireless mouse. But you probably don’t want to. We’ve tried it many times, and it’s a great way to screw up your shoulders or neck. Keyboards and mice were designed to be used by an office worker sitting upright in a desk chair, not a gamer slouching comfortably on a couch.
Although we had fun—maybe too much fun—building this rig, we're also confident in recommending the same parts for anyone looking to build a new mainstream gaming PC. If you're pressed for storage, adding a hard drive is an easy upgrade, as long as you can stretch the budget a little. Whether you're looking to build a similar PC and will use this as a template, or just wanted to follow the process, we hope you enjoyed the journey.
What’s a gaming gear upgrade if you’ve gotten a new PC but still have those same old monitors? You may be catching our drift here — if you upgrade one piece of your setup, others may then ask to be changed as well.
